Evening is the land of the dead

As for the ancient architectural style of Izumo Taisha Shrine(出雲大社), I see with my clairvoyance power no long enough stairs to reach the top of the temple on which the main shrine building exists though such things are thought to have existed in terms of  the present architectonics. Seeing spiritually, ladder-type stairs crossing in all directions several times over through thick pillars made of three woods. They seem to have been helpful as braces. In the main building there used to be a shrine maiden all the time.

As a line of communication, a sign of dropping things was used at first, but later a bronze bell-shaped vessel came to be used, the size of which became bigger and bigger gradually. This reminds me of a prototype of a modern fire watchtower. The appearance of the ancient Izumo Taisha Shrine was bizarre and far from beautiful.

About twenty years ago, I  visited Izumo Taisha Shrine just once. I felt light of the site to be a yellow, evening world.  Even now, when I concentrate on Izumo Taisha Shrine, I feel as if I were in the yellow, evening world.

Yominokuni(黄泉の国), the land of the dead, which appears in Kojiki(古事記),Japan’s oldest historical record, is expressed by a Chinese characer ”黄” meaning yellow, and I feel it is a really yellow world. I’s like yellow at the time it is getting dark in the evening. Evenings are a spiritual time zone, when you had better not visit a shrines or a grave yard because it is the time of change from the the day into the night spiritually.

When you hold a memorial service for your ancestors, you shouldn’t do it at the unstable time in the evening, one hour before and after the sunset. Though, when you hold a memorial service for your ancestors in the way of my recommendation, you offer a third incense stick for ” other spirits” , these are the spirits who have something to do with you. But, if you do it at the unstable time zone, there is a risk of attracting spirits who have nothing to do with you.

So, it is ideal that you hold one in the morning. Or, if you work on the night shift, you can do it anytime except between 12 midnight to 3 am. When I concentrate on Grand Shrine of Ise, I feel brightness even at night. These contrasting worlds seem to be both necessary for this universe.
