have no attachment to what you’ve done

As for the previous life, I think it’s better not to know it.

  • as for A Aに関して言えば
  • previous life 前世
  • it’s better not to~ 〜しないほうがよい

In Japan, there has been a custom of washing away something bad like a grudge, a persistent tenacity, or an impurity. There is a case both of washing away something mentally bad and of throwing something materially bad into a river. These thing are done so that Seoritsu Hime(瀬織津比売), a god living at shallows of a river, can purify it. There is also a Shinto ritual where you transfer a spirit obsessing someone to a paper ,which is in the shape of a human, and then throw the paper into a river.

  • custom 慣習
  • wash away A Aを水に流す

In brief, it is better to separate a negative consciousness from yourself and forget about it. Buddha also asserted that it is having an obsession to things that makes people suffer.

Most of the people who want to know their previous life are dissatisfied with their present situations. Not knowing the cause of their unfortunate situations, they are anxious to attribute it to their previous life, thinking “What have I done to deserve this, “or “What my previous life was like?”

  • most of A Aの中の大部分
  • be anxious to~ しきりに〜したがる
  • attribute A to B Aの原因をBにあるとする
  • deserve 値する

When you were born in this world, you had already balanced Karma of your previous lives. The balance of the previous lives has been  already made strictly in the form of your physical body, surroundings of your birth and so on. That is, now is the answer to your previous lives.

  • and so on など
  • that is つまり

In spite of your making a fresh start, if you are caught up in the previous life, it might lose the balance you made with great difficulty. Being caught up in the past causes unnecessary, bad Karma again. Instead of wasting time on such useless thing, you should have gratitude for the present situations, which produces good Karma both in the present time and in the future.

  • in spite of A Aにもかかわらず
  • make a start スタートを切る
  • be caught up in A Aに囚われる
  • with great difficulty やっとのことで
  • instead of ~ing 〜しないで

There are a variety of ways to know the previous life in the world. In the case of hypnotism, patients often talk about not his previous life but a spirit obsessing him. Also they sometimes talk about an illusion which his consciousness saw in the World of the Dead. The case is rare where they talk about their true, previous life.

  • a variety of A 様々なA
  • hyonotism 催眠術
  • patient 患者
  • not A but B AではなくB
  • illusion 幻
  • the World of the Dead 幽界

We were born with a view to digesting Karma we made in the previous lives , forgetting about it, and growing up spiritually. I feel that to try to know the previous life is to stick and return to it. It is important that you console yourself with gratitude , who has been sealed up due to the hardships in this present life, saying “Well done!”, and wash away your anxieties.

  • stick to A Aに固執する
  • console 慰める
  • seal up A Aを封じ込める
  • due to A Aのために
  • hardships 苦難
  • Well done!
