what is a mental attitude to a memorial service ?

To hold a memorial service for ancestors is to direct your heart to them. But if offsprings are always directing their mind to them, ignoring their lives or jobs, the ancestors will get in trouble and not be able to rest in peace. Your ancestors know what you have in mind and your present situations.

For example, imagine your child doesn’t go to school and help you with household chores, always trying to gauge your feelings from your expression. To be sure, it makes you pleased a little bit as a parent. But when you think about his/her future, you might begin to get irritated , feeling ill at ease, wondering what would happen to him/her if I died. You might get involved in a car accident with worry.

  • help A with B AのBを手伝う
  • household chores 家事
  • gauge 窺う
  • expression 表情
  • to be sure 確かに
  • ill at ease 不安な

It is important that offsprings who practice the memorial service should do what they have to do in their daily lives, face his/her ancestors trying their best in life, and devote both gratitude for being kept alive and incense sticks to them. These things would make ancestors pleased the best.

It varies from person to person what to do. It is whether or not you always try your best in the world you live that matters. It doesn’t matter whether you are successful or not. Some of you might be students or the sick who cannot get out of bed. It is important that each of you exert your best effort in your given circumstances.

  • from person to person 人によって
  • what to do 何をするべきか
  • whether S+V SがVするかどうか

In the early stage where you began to hold a memorial service for your ancestors with gratitude, using incense sticks, if you can feel some effect, you will feel like doing it many times a day. But, trying to do it too much means you have some expectations. It is important that you do it only with gratitude. If you hold the service with a lively mind using incense sticks, your mind does reach them and make them feel relieved. Then, if they are relieved, the wave motions, in turn, will reach you back through a spiritual line, and your mind will be calm and peaceful naturally.

  • many times 何度も
  • in turn 今度は
  • calm and peaceful 穏やかな
  • naturally 自然に

Ancestors and offsprings are like “a couple mirror”, and they grow up with each other. If your ancestors are relieved, they leave for the next world, and you can live through this life strongly.

  • each other お互い
  • leave for A Aに向けて出発する
  • strongly 強く

If you’re going to hold the service without a Tanzaku or a memorial tablet, you had better not do it. The Kotodama “I Ka Shi Te I Ta Da I Te  A Ri Ga To U Go Za I  Ma Su” and incense sticks are practically effective, so spirits do come close to you. When they come, without Yorishiro, an object where they can stay temporarily, there is a possibility of obsessing your body. There are too many half way rituals without effect which lack a concept of Yorishiro.

Spiritual waves from the sun will get stronger and stronger hereafter. We have both an inherent god leading to the Original God and our soul in our body, and by removing a barrier-the rock door-between the two and becoming as one, we can avoid the effects of the spiritual waves from the sun. As long as you are obsessed by other spiritual bodies, even if they are your ancestors’, you cannot break the rock door.

There are many ignorant psychics in the world who practice spiritual healing for money or play a medium.  Physical and mental disorders are beginning to happen to these filthy psychics. It is important that you avoid such people and hold a memorial service for the spirits of your ancestors and have gratitude to God for the starting point of being kept alive, experiencing many things in social life.

When I saw children playing a video game enthusiastically and having fun, an idea occurred to me. A system of a video game which appeared more than 20 years ago and that of a new video game are still the same in the basic components.

1.  controller itself to play a game

2.  software

3. TV screen and to use electricity

I tried imagining replacing these things with a physical body, soul, and an inherent god.

  • have fun 楽しむ
  • idea 考え
  • occur to A Aの頭に思い浮かぶ
  • the same 同じ
  • replace A with B AをBと置き換える
  • physical body 肉体
  • soul 魂
  • inherent god 内在神

I think the controller of a video game machine corresponds to our body. The controller makes progress in appearance year by year. It has been improving steadily, though the basic structure is the same. Japanese human bodies have also changing dramatically over the last 50 years. They are getting taller, the legs longer, and women’s bust bigger. In terms of genetics, it is said to be a mystery for the Japanese to transform themselves so dramatically in such a short period of time just because of the change of food or the improvement of nourishment. I think the Japanese body form had been almost the same until the Meiji period for thousands of years.

  • correspond to A Aに対応する
  • year by year 年々

  • because of A Aのために
  • nourishment 栄養
  • body form 体形
  • thousands of A 何千ものA

The software of a video game corresponds to our souls. This software is furnished with an auto learning function and each of the softwares makes its own progress and has a various distinctive features. Recent video games are connected to the Internet, so the more you play a game, the more features it obtains just like each soul experiences its own life and takes on different individualities.

  • be furnished with A Aを備え付けている

  • recent 最近の
  • be connected to A Aと繋がっている
  • take on A Aを帯びる
  • different 違った
  • individuality 個性

But, we have to be careful not to be infected by a virus through the Internet. There is a possibility that some wicked person infects a machine through the Internet with a program which causes self-destruction. The infection by way of the Internet is similar to the obsession by a spirit.

  • infect A with B AにBを感染させる
  • by way of A A経由で
  • be similar to A Aに似ている
  • obsession 憑依

The suicidal virus can be coped with by a software of vaccination and a defensive system. If you have already been infected with a virus, you can use the latest vaccination software of ver.2007,I Ka Shi Te I Ta Da I Te  A Ri Ga To U Go Za I Ma Su.” Hannya Shingyo(般若心経)or so-and-so Shingon(真言)are all ancient vaccinations. If you install them, the machine will go wrong or breakdown and end up in an infinite loop.

  • suicidal 自殺の
  • cope with A Aに対処する
  • defensive 防御の

  • so-and-so 何々の
  • end up in A 結局はAするはめになる

The latest defensive system is to hold a memorial service for your ancestors with gratitude using incense sticks and Tanzaku(短冊). When you practice this, you can prevent wicked viruses from making an invasion.

  • hold a memorial service
  • prevent A from ~ing Aが〜するのを妨げる
  • wicked 邪悪な
  • make an invasion 侵入する

TV screens and electricity can be said to correspond to an inherent god in the sense that they are needed when you start up and many kinds of softwares need them in common. Oops! if I am explaining the system I’m not so familiar with, I might get told off, huh?

  • in the sense that… …
  • Oops!

a hint on enlightenment Taoism teaches

白山4

According to a teaching of Taoism, there are San-shin(三神), or three gods( =Sanshi-shin, 三尸神, and sometimes called Sanchu,三虫, or three warms) in a human body;Joshi-shin (上尸神) causing a disease of a head, Chushi-shin(中尸神)a chest, and Geshi-shin(下 尸神)the lower half of the body. It  is said that they go up to Heaven in the evening on Koshin(庚申),57th of the Oriental Zodiac and let on the Original God, or Polaris about the person.

  • according to A Aによると

  • chest 胸
  • the lower half of the body 下半身
  • the Oriental Zodiac 干支
  • let on A about B AにBについて告げ口をする
  • the Original God 根源神
  • Polaris 北極星

There has been an idea in Taoism since the ancient times that there lives an inherent god in the human body and by Sonshi(存思), assuming gods in each parts of the body and meditate upon it, and ensconcing them, a human can live forever. In short, there are three gods in the three parts of the body, namely head, chest, and the lower half of the body, and by growing them well and making bigger, a human can live forever.

But, the purpose of Taoism is not only to live long. Its real intention is to live long in order to increase the likelihood of  attaining enlightenment. I think this is a profound thought. Because it is difficult to attain enlightenment during the limited time of life.

  • purpose 目的
  • intention 意図
  • in order to~ 〜するために

What is the enlightenment saints aspire to attain by living long? I feel the enlightenment is “to realize that we are kept alive and to be able to have gratitude for it.”

  • be able to~ 〜することができる

Hakuin(白隠),a Japanse zen priest in the Edo period, is said to have mistified people in those days by saying he obtained enlightenment countless times or that he did it more than 300 times in his life. His words represent the essence of enlightenment very well.

  • in those days 当時
  • obtain 得る
  • countless times 何度も
  • more than A A以上
  • represent 表す

Enlightenment is like walking down a road. You go forward sometimes gaining the enlightenment and at other times going back to normal, and sometimes attaining the enlightenment and at other times feeling depressed.  Taoism says that it is the process of life of walking on the road, or Ta0,  that is the truth and reality of the universe. To walk on the road, obtaining enlightenment, distressing himself and having gratitude, is the only way to assimilate into the Original God nourishing everything in the universe.

  • walk down a road

  • go back to A Aに戻る

I perceive that Shintoism was conveyed from Japan to China in the ancient times and turned into the base of Taoism. Taoism equals Shintoism.

To know right is the most important

白山4

Buddha once said, the way to get rid of pains is not to try to escape but;

1. to see right    (Shouken, 正見)

2. to think right    (Shoshi,正思)

3. to speak right    (Shogo,正語)

4. to do right (Shogyo, 正行)

5. to live right (Shomyo, 正命)

6. to strive right (Shoshoujin,

7. to wish right (Shonen, 正念)

8. to decide right (Shojou, 正定)

He expounded the above as Hasshodou(八正道),or the Noble Eighfold Path.

  • get rid of A Aを無くす

Though there are many interpretations about it, I think the first and second path are the most important of the eight paths. Because if you make an error in the first and second, you are bound to go in the wrong direction on the other paths.

  • interpretation 解釈
  • make an error 間違いをする
  • be bound to~ きっと〜するだろう
  • directon 方向

According to my psychic reading, Buddha conveys that Seichi(正知), which includes both Shoken and Shoshi, is the most important.

  • according to A Aによれば
  • convey 伝える
  • include 含む

“Seichi” means to know right. There are a wide variety of objects you should know, such as daily lives, knowledge, faith, etc-everything in life. To know right might be difficult, because you need to know your Karma and fortune in your previous lives, too.

  • a wide variety of A 実に様々なA
  • object 対象
  • such as A Aのような
  • knowledge 知識
  • faith 信仰
  • fortune 運
  • previous life 前世

A man makes mistakes due to his ignorance. If he were well-informed, he could understand the other person’s standpoint and feelings, and then would not battle against him unnecessarily.

  • make a mistake 間違いをする
  • due to A Aのために
  • the other person 相手

For example, there are many people who commit sins  trying to disseminate or advertise a cult religion they belong to. It is too late for them to realize thier mistakes after practicing the religion for 20 years. They have committed sins, such as family trouble with money and the lack of service to his family. And they also make those members of the cult religion he persuaded to be so commit the same sin.

  • commit a sin 罪を犯す
  • belong to A Aに属する
  • It follows that…
  • persuade A to~ Aを説得して〜させる

If he ended up committing only this kind of sins in his daily lives, it might not be so serious. But the problem is there are so many religious faiths which make people unhappy. There are many members 0f a cult religion who worry about their present situations, seeing how its senior members or officials left its group, how they became ill and died.

If they realizes their mistakes during the lifetime, they might be saved. But it is too late for them to realize the mistakes after death. Their souls would be attracted to the World of the Dead, where the wicked spirit that maintains the religious organization resides, and couldn’t rest in peace. It is the end of his soul and  he would be a big burden to his offsprings, and clog his family’s spiritual line. It is his ignorance that he joined the cult whose purpose is collect money.

  • the World of the Dead 幽界
  • rest in peace 成仏する
  • because of A Aのために

Any religious group that collects money from believers by making them believe that they could get some benefit and using God’s name, can never be connected with the righteous gods.

  • believer 信者
  • connect 繋ぐ
  • righteous 正しい

A man of common sense would never join a cult, even if he doesn’t know anything about religions. The simple faith of devoting gratitude and offering incense sticks to ancestors on your own is the most important. More than this is unnecessary and lead to “Path to greed” of trying to take a shortcut by using invisible worlds.

  • a man of common sense

want to do many things to make people happy

白山4

On a holiday during Obon vacation, I was watching a movie on cable TV. Changing the channel, I saw a movie broadcast, called “The Beast to Die”, starring Mr.Yusaku Matsuda. The movie is more than 25 years old. I watched it thinking ” Ah, good times.” He acted the role of a man hiding madness.

  • holiday 休日

Seeing the movie, I remembered the comment of one of his bereaved family at the time when he died of bladder cancer. The member of his family said that Yusaku Matsuda would often say to his family near the end of his life fighting his illness ” Should I be born again, I wanna do many things to make people happy.”

  • a life fighting one’s illness

In this world, he became successful in the career he loved and would have made almost all of his worldly dreams or desires come true. And what he thought at the time he mused over his death calmly in his life under medical treatment was “wanted to do things for others.”

This comment had long remained in my mind, seeing the comment as himself. If his purpose in this life had been “to be rich” or “to make my dream come true,” he would have wished those desires in the next life. But it was different. His desire was “want to do things for others.”

  • remain 残る
  • see A as B   AをBと見なす
  • purpose 目的
  • different 違った

I feel this to be one of the important purposes of life. Well, since all and everything derive from the Original God and we were given birth by it, his words can be paraphrased into “want to do things for me as well as others.”

  • feel A to be~ Aを〜であると感じる

It is hard to please inherent god in your body, because you cannot tell a lie to or bluff  it. A person who can take good care of himself, his family or those around him can value many others with all his heart. You must not do any volunteer work neglecting your family, nor must you practice any religion for yourself only neglecting a service and care for your family. Such faith is far from that of the righteous god.

Mr. Matsuda may have made his body work too hard and neglected his health. But it would have been his way of life in this world. DO NOT have any grudge against and abuse anybody

白山4

A human society is where people feel stress. It is no exaggeration to say that you transmigrated in this world as your own choice so that you could improve yourself. In other worlds where the same kind of spirits get together, it is difficult for you to improve yourself, and you would be disgusted by its boredom and monotonousness.

A reaction which occurs when someone who never reminds himself of gratitude meets an unpleasant person would be to yell at him inside. Such thing is of common occurrence. But you cannot make progress if you react to a stimulus of anger just like a machine. The energy of invectives toward the other person , such as “You son of a bitch!” , never fail to return to you.

  • reaction 反応

  • never fail to~ 必ず〜する

This world is so made as to the emotion you give off will come back to you, whether it is good or bad. People who are always speaking ill of or abusing others will come to feel depressed with a time difference. If you’re sure you’re right, it’s no problem to get angry, of course, but if you say words like a curse or something abusive, you’ll pay heavily.

  • be so made as to~ 〜するよう作られている

It is not bad to say to the other person “I Ka Shi Te I Ta Da I Te  A Ri Ga To U Go Za I Ma Su” with the power of angry in your heart. When you get angry, it is better for you to do so saying the words of gratitude, than abusive language. Spiritually speaking, by doing so, the other person and you are both saved.

If the other person is in the wrong, some phenomenon that makes him reform himself will actually happen. If you are in the wrong, on the other hand, you’ll be sorry for what you said to the other person naturally and think that you have to be careful from this time on.

Some of you might think this is a kind of backhand compliment, like used in criticizing politicians, and have a feeling of wrongness. But still, this world is the one where Kotodama has strong power. In the World of Reality, if you use abusive language, it will return to you and good luck will leave you as a result, and then everything about you will turn upside down easily like a roller coaster.

If I met such person, I wouldn’t hate him. Instead, I would think he must be a pitiful man, and worry about him. I would feel pity for him thinking that he must be leading an unsatisfied life. Such people feel stress even in a train.

Such people will end up in destroying themselves. They are destroying themselves on their own. In my eyes, it’s like they are committing suicide slowly, so I cannot help but feel sorry for them.
