FAQ 3

Question:

I don’t understand the meaning of Kannagara(カンナガラ)very well. You wrote before about an old man who did chores at a shrine. Does Kannagara mean to work on a small salary and be grateful for living in a small house and eating simple meals like the old man ?

  • meaning 意味
  • chores 雑務
  • small salary 安月給
  • grateful 感謝している
  • simple meal 質素な食事

Answer:

Kannagara is to live with the awareness of living with God. You already have your inner god and now are living. When you have the awareness that you are living with God, you cannot lead a shameful life to God. You will be true to your conscience. As this awareness deepens, your conducts will actually be those of God. If you do your best at everything you do, you’ll come to have no misgivings and your surroundings will also begin to change in fact. Kannagara is a state of mind of enjoying your life with God with gratitude and the consciousness that “life is gonna be alright.”
