FAQ 31

I have read somewhere before that there is a deity at toilet and the deity is high ranked in spirituality. I have had some trouble having a bowel motion, so after I use toilet I make it a rule to make a bow to the toilet seat three times and say “thank you.” Is this deed meaningless? As I hadn’t known before, my father and grandfather did the same thing.

It is important to show some respect to a spirit residing at toilet. To excrete what is inside your body is to excrete part of your spiritual body. As the spiritual body is accumulated,  a spiritual magnetic field comes to form there. The same thing is true of flush toilet as well. Toilet is where you part your spiritual body, so it is a sacred place. It is important to keep it clean because its state affects the spiritual bodies of the inhabitants. It is often said that toilet cleaning has to do with luck with money, and I feel it’s likely.
