It is important to fit yourself into “now” no matter what your present situations are.

I had little time to write a new post today because today was the end of month and also we had a business meeting which took place every other Friday.

At the meeting, a managing director’s talk lasted long and exceeded its usual, predetermined time. Then a young employee began to look at his watch often. I understood him, because today was TGIF. I , as a middle manager, was anxious about his attitude because I knew when such attitude offended the director, a meeting would often go on and on. In that case, he would not finish it by all means.

  • managing director 取締役
  • last 続く
  • TGIF Thank God, it’s Friday.
  • go on 続く
  • by all means 何としても

What I was thinking then was it is important above all things that a man concentrates on “now” at every moment and “gets right into his part” and “plays the part completely.”

  • above all things 何よりも
  • get right into one’s part

When you attend a meeting, you have to concentrate on a subject and think about it hard together with the other people. We all know meetings go nowhere however hard we try lol.

Even if it had been close to the time to meet up his girlfriend,  he, as an employee, should have concentrated on the present situation before his eyes. Since his mind had been far away and looked at his watch too often,  the meeting was extended much longer.

  • even if S+V たとえSがVするとしても

The same thing can be true of our lives. If you escape from the present situation, happiness awaiting you in the future will also escape from you. If you ignore what you can or should do now and try to depend on God or something mysterious, your sufferings will go on and on .

  • be true of A Aに当てはまる

If you are a housewife, for example, it is likely enough that in the middle of concentrating on house chores to do, you attain enlightenment. In practice, to concentrate on the work before your eyes would make you develop spiritually 100 times better than you do religious activities or mediation abandoning your family. It would be really great if you could appreciate your present situations where you’re experiencing your life.

  • in the middle of~ing 〜している最中に
  • in practice 実際
