Spiritual Effectiveness of Hitogata is No Better than a Placebo

%ef%bc%97%e5%b7%bb

There is a shinto ritual in which you attach Hitogata(人形), a piece of paper in human shape, to your back or diseased area and blow on it uttering an incantation. This ritual is performed in some newly risen religions based on shinto or a few shrines. You could send such piece of paper back to these organizations to have it purified.

Normally, you need to pay optional or prescribed money. Some vicious organizations send people chosen at random exclusive papers for Hitogata and leaflets saying nothing about the fee and if people in trouble apply for the remedy, they will demand payment of an excessive sum later.

  • optional 任意の
  • vicious 悪徳の
  • in trouble 困った

It is written on the paper that you need to write your private information on it for the effectiveness. So, the victims who wrote it in detail are to be in great trouble. Some of such vicious groups sell such private information to other pyramid-selling companies. Personal data of those who are in trouble or gullible are in so great demand that it sells well. You have to be careful.

Well, is the spiritual ritual really effective? In terms of spiritual magnetism, it surely is. There are various kinds of Hitogata, such as a piece of paper with a human figure drawn, a piece of paper in human form on which you write a person’s name, or a doll made of straw. In short, this ritual is a kind of autosuggestion by which you make yourself relieved. You’re trying to attach your spiritual dirt to the Hitogata and then get another person to purify it for you.

Spiritual rituals with the use of Hitogata have ancient origins, including Hina dolls displayed at the Girls’ Festival. There is evidence that people in Jomon Period used earthen figurines for magic, and that models of humans were sacrificed instead of humans with flesh and blood.

  • ancient 古代の
  • origin 起源
  • evidence 証拠

Even at present, some shrines perform rituals of purification using the Hitogata-method twice a year on the occasion of Oharae-shinji ritual(大祓神事). Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary. But you might as well participate in it if you want, as part of a year’s ritual observances or contribution to the shrine.

  • at present 現在
  • purification 祓い
  • occasion 機会
  • might as well~ 〜しても良い
  • observances 式典
  • contribution 寄付

The problem is that getting someone other than yourself perform a ritual of purification several times a year has little spiritual effect and is no better than a placebo. It’s important for you to get rid of your negative magnetism by yourself  in everyday life.

  • no better than A Aと少しも変わらない
  • placebo 気休め
  • get rid of A Aを取り除く

Yorishiro(寄り代), a meiudm where spirits stay temporarily, specifically a strip of fancy paper or a memorial tablet, that you use in holding a memorial service for your ancestors acts as substitute for yourself and it’s very effective. As long as you appease spirits at least once a day in this World of Reality, you can avoid negative influences from spirits in invisible worlds because of Yorishiro substituting for yourself.

The spiritual magnetism accumulated in Yorishiro offsets the negative magnetism, which phenomenon may be hard to understand from an everyday perspective, but the spiritual world is where such a substitutional behavior normally occurs. If you have been appeasing spirits related to you in your own way, you don’t need any ritual with the use of Hitogata that costs you a lot of money. Once another person concerns himself/herself in your spiritual problem, it causes unnecessary spiritual dirt to attach to you.

Those who can Have Consideration for What is Invisible are Spiritually Virtuous

%ef%bc%97%e5%b7%bb

If you’ve been able to hold memorial services for your ancestors for more than one year, even with a few breaks, I recommend you to set a household shinto altar at your house to enshrine Kamifuda(神札), a kind of amulet provided by a shinto shrine, in. That you can continue doing it means you have consideration for invisible beings, which is rare and valuable.

For example, when you share something with someone in neighborhood, you’re expecting at heart that the person will give you something in return in the future. But when you hold a memorial service or pray to God, you can’t see the object.  Therefore,

● You can’t be sure if you could make yourself understood.

● You can’t be sure if your deed is effective or not.

● You may think what you’re doing is selfish or uselss.

Sometimes you may worry about these. But this is the very reason why your deed is very valuable and admirable. In fact, it’s easy to do something for visible reactions. Anyone can do it. This is nothing but an expedient action for you to receive something in return. You may be able to hold memorial services for a short period of time as an experiment, even with concern about the possibility of their being meaningless, but you couldn’t keep on doing it long without your mercy or kindness. Many of you aren’t aware of your virtue. Some might think you’re able to continue holding memorial services because of your greed. But this is not true. Being able to hold memorial services for your ancestors shows that you’re a righteous person. The continuation is the proof. No one can deny the fact that you hold memorial services continuously.

Those who only believe in something recognizable or perceivable may think that memorial services for ancestors are nothing but superstition and worthless. Such people are likely to take only expedient actions for themselves in everyday lives. They try to avoid worthless things .

More often than not, however, you are not aware that you’re taken care of by someone without knowing it nor that you’re annoying someone. Those who can’t care about what they’re not aware of will miss the chance to be happy or, even if their dreams come true, they will lose something important in exchange. This is a law of the universe.

  • more often than not しばしば
  • in exchange 交換に

Those who can take care of what is invisible and hiding are spiritually virtuous. They can’t see nor understand God. They can’t be sure of how effective their memorial services for ancestral spirits are, but still they hold memorial services and express their gratitude to God just because they are grateful for having been kept alive. What matters is this kind of attitude. Those who can practice holding memorial services for their ancestors are those who can be considerate of others in the real world, too. They are kind at heart.

Many self-claimed professionals assert that since ancestral spirits have no power, worshipping gods is the most important. The true God would avoid such people who abandon the weak, their ancestral spirits, and try to make approaches to God, saying “God, please,” for they believe in the logic of the strong like animals. Their attitude is the proof that they’re not connected with the true God. God will approach on its own those who try to help the weak.

The Age Has Come When Each of You Becomes the Founder of Your Own Religion

Tendai(天台) sect of Buddhism, which Saicho(最澄) founded in the early years of Heian age, produced the founders of Jodo sect(浄土宗), Jodo-shin sect(浄土真宗), Rinzai sect(臨済宗), Soto sect(曹洞宗), and Nichiren sect(日蓮宗), which are all representative sects of the modern Buddhism. The basic principle of  Saicho’s teachings is that everything has Buddha nature, which echos the idea of Ise-Hakusan Dou that all human beings are entrusted with Inner God.

A major reason why Saicho produced a lot of great religious founders was that neither Saicho nor his teachings had strong religious magnetism that ties down people. His teachings were unconstrained in a good sense and he had a pure heart. His handwriting also shows that he was not an unusual person but a serious one. A different way of looking at him is that he was not so interesting a person as Kukai(空海).

In order for you to develop spiritually, a master with a strong personality is obstructive. A lot of self-proclaimed experts say that the relationship of master and pupil is necessary for spiritual growth. This saying proves that they don’t understand the spiritual truth.

Conventional relationship of master and pupil would make pupils covered with their masters’ spiritual magnetism, and as a result their Inner Gods would hide themselves. Such pupils could never go beyond their masters. There are a lot seekers after the truth who feel good in taking on their masters’ color and mistake it as spiritual progress. Therefore, psychics or religious persons who worship their masters absolutely can be said to be fake.

  • conventional 従来の
  • go beyond A Aを超える
  • fake 偽物

As proof of this, Kukai, full of individuality, didn’t produce any great founders of large sects.  No one could reach enlightenment by his ascetic practices and rituals because they were too unique for anyone but Kukai.

  • proof 証拠
  • individuality 個性
  • enlightenment 悟り
  • unique 独特の

To reach enlightenment is to become one with Inner God, which has nothing to do with others. Kukai’s practices were effective for only Kukai. The most those who try his methods can do is to experience chance encounters in limited, small spiritual worlds. Do not confuse this kind of experience with becoming Buddha.

  • have nothing to do with A Aと関係がない

Given the truth that such pupils will never be able to go beyond their masters, it follows that all the pupils worshipping Shakuson(釈尊) have been deteriorating for the last two thousand years. It is natural that Shakuson should have predicted that the age of decadence would come when his true teachings disappear. Now is exactly the age of decadence.

  • the age of decadence 末法

The time has come when each of you becomes the founder of your own religion. In order to walk the path to truth rightly without getting sidetracked, it would act as a guide to hold memorial services with gratitude for the spirits related to you and remind yourself of gratitude to God. Spiritual colors of others are nothing but obstacles. Believe in your ancestors and Inner God.

When You are Getting Controlled by Anger, Say “Ei!”

As I foretold in an article of this blog before, spiritual beings from other worlds have begun to possess people who have the same kind of spiritual vibrations as the spiritual beings. According to a TV news report the other day, a 19-year-old boy ran over a bank clerk and killed him. The boy said “I just wanted to kill somebody.” A passer-by who witnessed the scene replied in an interview “There was something weird about him. The mere sight of him made me scared.” The boy’s colleagues testified that he was normal until just before he caused the incident. Since the spiritual frequency of vibration of the earth has been heightening, spiritual beings can easily move, which phenomenon has never happened before.

Your past reincarnations result in your present state of mind. Spiritual beings come close to all human beings who are of the same mind as the spirits like a pair of magnets. Some people attract spirits from the World of Hell and others the World of Gods. Just as iron sand is attracted by magnets, spiritual beings are attracted naturally by human beings of the same kind.

Such people as attract spirits from the World of Hell have to repent of their sinful lives. In a way, they themselves are responsible for their possession. There are some people who tend to attract evil spirits because of their past lives, but the binding power of their tendency is not so strong. Because the way you live in this World of Reality causes such possession after all, you should not blame it on your past lives or karma you really don’t know. Conversely, you can attract good spirits, including your ancestral spirits, according to your good intentions and efforts. And with the stable state of mind, you could make efforts rightly and improve your present situations.

By the way, I’ve got a comment from a housewife like the following:

I’ve post a comment about my child. Every time I get mad at my son, a precious, lovable small boy, I scold him so violently. As I get more and more angry, my character changes like a devil. Filled with anger and hatred, I get into such a state as to kill somebody or cause an irremediable harm. I’ve hurt my son many times. At such times, I forget gratitude to God completely. Am I possessed by something then? My fear of other people might cause anger. I think we all don’t want to be hated or isolated, but I don’t want to too much.

This housewife is so conscious of others that she makes herself, or Inner God, cower. In a sense, she has too much pride and is very afraid of being humiliated as if she were a warrior. She doesn’t seem to hold memorial services for her ancestors every day, which makes the protection of her by her ancestral spirits weak. And as a result, she has been affected by wicked wandering spirits. She has to continue holding memorial services firmly for her husband’s ancestors. It would be effective for her to offer the third incense stick to the spirits related to her and those of her aborted children related to her family line.

Child abuse is largely caused by the possession of spirits who have grudge against the family line. Therefore, it’s important that she hold the memorial services positively and calmly. It seems that she often has a vacant expression suddenly. This is one of the characteristics of the people who are overwhelmed by uncontrollable emotions.  She has a constitution to be possessed easily. I’m sure she can feel signs of her anger swelling inside. She knows it, bus she can’t control herself somehow.

  • abuse 虐待
  • grudge 恨み
  • vacant 虚ろな

When you begin to feel anger, say “Ei !” shaking your head vertically. Saying it aloud will enhance its effectiveness. When others are around, say it to yourself shaking your head a little. In Shugendo(修験道), Japanese mountain asceticism-shamanism incorporating Shinto and Buddhist concepts, there are many ways of psyching yourself up, but especially saying “Ei! ” deep down from your gut is good. You can purify yourself in a moment.

  • vertically 縦に
  • enhance 高める
  • psych A up Aに気合いを入れる
  • in a moment 一瞬で

As you hold memorial services for your ancestors and your Inner God manifests itself, the effectiveness of saying “Ei !” will increase.  Spiritually speaking, it’s like a knife turns into a butcher’s knife, then a sword and finally a divine sword. My sword is like a big ax flying away.  Why don’t you give it a try? In order to enhance the effectiveness, say the following words after saying “Ei!” ;

Whatever Happens, Keep Your “Pilot Light” Burning

The other day, I saw a TV program featuring the social problem that men in their thirties who were in the prime of life were losing their jobs rapidly. They say that, in rural areas, even part-time or temporary workers as well as regular employees are losing their jobs. This was not the case in Showa era. The Japanese society has never experienced such a severe recession before.

In the 1940’s after the war, when there was nothing but burnt-out ruins in Japan, most Japanese people were poor, but the economy was developing every year steadily. In those days, the money put in time deposit more than doubled because of its interest.

Our parents and grandparents, who founded and the base of Japanese economy and developed it, can be said to be the generation who knows only a developing society. That is, the generation who knows only developing economy has a big influence on  politics and is company presidents in the economic climate the Japanese society has faced for the first time. It seems that the generation can only come up with the plan of reducing the scale of economy and is worried about nothing but saving their own necks.

  • found 作る
  • generation 世代

I think the Japanese economic growth for the past ten years has actually been a negative growth or the status quo at best. A negative growth of economy is a fearful thing because the value of money in the bank decreases naturally. You have to live your life taking into account the yearly decrease of your income. You’re in the age in which it is difficult to live.

A man appearing in the TV program was in his middle thirties and he graduated from a well-known private university. He quit his job in his first company in Tokyo in a few months because of a trouble with his colleagues. After that, he’s been drifting from job to job as a temporary worker in rural areas. He prepares his own meals, considering his monthly budget and health. I thought he was a tidy, excellent person and too good for unskilled labor.

Seeing him spiritually, I found that he lost his confidence at the first company. Once you’ve lost confidence, you become feeble, always making negative choices. In this World of Reality, a small success leads you to a bigger one. What matters is whether  you can have the confidence to accomplish goals by all means or whether you can keep on trying without a guarantee of success.

  • by all means 何としても

In the entertainment world, I hear, senior entertainers bully talented newcomers to make them lose their confidence for the purpose of keeping their positions. Only newcomers who’ve got over it can become successful. The successful entertainers often say later that such bullying by the senior entertainers was out of love, as if it were a heartwarming story, but the senior entertainers seem to have bullied them seriously, trying to survive in the entertainment world. This kind of thing often happens in ordinary society, too.

Even if you fail or are beaten up, it’s important that you keep your pilot light burning in your heart. Your positive mind will illuminate your way and show which way to go. To lose confidence is to lower the pilot light. A spiritual pilot light does exist in your heart. If this holy fire is extinguished, you turns a wreck or may die. This pilot light can be said to be the light of a soul. Those who can’t believe even in themselves can’t believe in others, much less their Inner God. This is regrettable.

  • beat A up Aをひどい目にあわす

Well, what should you do with the disappearing fire in your heart? Attending seminars on self-development may make you positive by suggestion, but it’s nothing but a temporary uplifting feeling. The same thing can be said about religions. Then what should you do? Only by using a practical, spiritual method can you make your pilot light burning again. It is to offer gratitude to your ancestral spirits, or your spiritual genes. If you can make your pilot light burning again by offering gratitude to your ancestors, you’re sure to have a positive state of mind. You would get confidence somehow without reasons. Then if you are beaten up, you can bear it and watch for a sign of revival.

It is like spraying water on the fire in your heart to have wandering ancestral spirits or other related ones generating negative vibration in your spiritual body. Such being the case, you can’t make the fire strong. If much water is sprayed on your fire, it can be almost extinguished and you can be severely depressed. To make your pilot light burning again, you have to stop the water from being sprayed on it above all by holding memorial services for your ancestors with gratitude and reminding yourself of gratitude to God.

Continued Hypocrisy Turns Into True Virtue

We experience various kinds of emotions every day such as vexation, anxiety, anger, uneasiness, depravity, joy, hope and mercy. Our minds are always changing. Emitted spiritual magnetism of each emotion makes up your aura. It’s OK for you to get angry , feel anxiety or indulge in fantasies, but the point is it’s important that you overwrite the negative emotions by emitting more positive ones.

Negative emotions and positive emotions offset each other. And the more magnetism of the two makes up the color of your aura. Therefore, after you felt distressed, got angry, or had a grudge against someone during the day, you should overwrite the negative emotions by having positive emotions of gratitude at the end of the day. It’s not good to sleep with anger because the negative emotion is recorded in your spiritual body.

If you’re told not to have negative emotions, you’ll end up suppressing them, which can cause your mental or physical problems later or trigger some impulsive behavior. In case you have anger, anxiety or sexual thoughts, you should keep at least the mind of observing yourself objectively, thinking “Oh, my!”

Shinran(親鸞), a famous founder of a Buddhist sect, observed and appoved his foolishness, accepting it honestly. He thought that no other man in the world was more foolish, lustful and stupid than himself. And he concluded that he had no choice but live with the belief in Buddha, and seeked for the teachings of Buddha. As a result, he finally reached the absolutely peaceful state of mind, meaning “Leave everything to Buddha after you’ve done all that you can.”

  • lustful 好色な

If I take a look spiritually at great men who made great achievements in the past, I find that many of them were such people as got angry, cried and loved someone passionately. Though they had more negative emotions than anyone else, they could have more positive emotions than the negative ones and sublimate the latter into actual good deeds. In a way, they were big men with both many good and bad aspects.

  • achievement 業績

Good deeds you do in this World of Reality offset your bad thoughts and have a lot of rewards. When you are almost overwhelmed by bad emotions, you should observe yourself and do a good deed even if it is hypocrisy. If you keep on practicing hypocrisy, it will turn into true virtue. Everything you do in this World of Reality is recorded in space as magnetism, which, in turn, is projected onto your magnetism like a wave. This is how your actions make your future and the reason why the future is indefinite and changeable.

Consoling your ancestral spirits or other ones related to you for any length of time every day is one of the greatest achievements you can make. No matter how many sinful acts you committed in the past, you can be OK.  As long as you live, it is what you do from now on that matters.

The Fundamental Problem will never be Solved as Long as You only Set Immediate Goals

A crazy man in Sangai(三界), the three worlds, doesn’t know him to be crazy.

A blind man in Sishou(四生), the four creature worlds,  doesn’t know him to be blind.

Born again, again, again and again, man is born ignorant from the start of his life.

Dying again, again, again and again, man dies ignorant at the end of his life.

This poem is attributed to Kukai(空海), a famous Japanese Buddhist monk. I feel that he is saying “People living in this world don’t realize their wrong deeds. All living things don’t even know that they are ignorant of the truth. Human souls are born as they are over and over again but still they remain the same. They die again and again, but still they die ignorant. It’s about time they realized they are the Buddha, or the universe itself.”

  • ignorant 無知の
  • attribute A to B AはBの作であるとする

People are troubled by various things in this world. Why are they? Because they are afraid to make mistakes and become losers. Lives are short and only several decades, though. For example, a woman may wonder if there might be a better marriage partner, hoping to choose a man who makes her happier. Wanting to win in this gambling, she may distress herself and go so far as to ask a psychic for advice who charge money in the name of God, making her life subject to what the psychic says.

  • trouble 悩ます
  • decade 10年
  • go so far as to~ 〜しさえする

Before you get married, you need to observe your marriage partner thinking that social status, riches or good looks are to vanish sooner or later. You should choose the one according to your conscience, asking yourself if you still want to get married to him/her even without such things. If you get married after distressing yourself, wanting to make a better choice, your marriage life is likely to fail because your criterion of judging a person is wrong.

If you want a good marriage, you should:

● hold memorial services for your ancestors with gratitude, be grateful to God and live your life in such a way that you can develop your conscience

● observe the other’s attitude toward his/her parents and old people. It’s important to see his/her attitude toward others, not toward you. By doing so, you can learn his/her true nature

● ask your parents or friends for opinions if you’re not sure about the other’s true nature

and so on.

  • attitude 態度
  • true nature  本性

However, the point is that marriage is never a goal of your life, just like Kukai said. If you live your life setting marriage as a goal, the eternal loop of life and death will never stop. Everything in life is nothing more than play through which you see God in yourself and others. All you have to do is do what you want according to your conscience, never afraid of making mistakes.

  • eternal 永遠の
  • nothing more than A Aに過ぎない

So, if you want to get married, you have only to choose a partner in view of your conscience, never afraid of making a mistake. Once you’ve got married, you may be distressed by various things you never imagined when you were single or may experience many good things conversely.

  • in view of A Aに照らして

Remaining single is also good, of course. It can be said that such people’s souls have already got through with tasks marriage life gives. I feel such souls have been increasing in number since the latter half of Showa era(昭和). They have chosen different kinds of tasks from married people’s.

  • single 独身の
  • get through with A Aを終える
  • on one’s own 自分で

In any case, all you have to do is live in society to your heart’s content. Things can only get better as long as you do your best and live to the full.

  • to one’s heart’s content
