family name when hold memorial service

When a woman get married and her family name becomes her husband’s, her spiritual body enters into the spiritual line, a kind of pipe through which energy comes from ancestors to offsprings,  of her husband’s family line. It can be said her spiritual body has entered in the husband’s family register. This is called “a transfer of spiritual register.”

There may be some women who are anxious about her parents’ home after getting married and want to hold memorial services for their ancestors. But, strange to say, as a woman whose spiritual register has already been transferred to her husband’s gets involved deeply in her parents’ spiritual line, she comes to quarrel with his husband gradually. She can’t stand a lot of trifle stuff his husband does. Her husband comes to gradually offended by what his wife says to him.

  • be anxious about A Aを心配する
  • get involved 関わる

Behind this phenomenon, there is a tug-of-war state between the ancestors of her husband’s family and those of her parents’. Ancestral spirits of each family try to defend their offsprings who hold memorial services for them in this world. In view of the children of her own in the future, for women to devote herself to the husband’s family line leads to her own happiness. If she refuses to do this, she is likely to get divorced after all.

  • phenomenon 現象
  • tug of war 綱引き
  • state 状態
  • defend 守る
  • in view of A Aを考慮に入れると
  • devote  捧げる
  • lead to A Aをもたらす
  • refuse 拒む
  • be likely to~ 〜しそうである
  • after all

So, when married women hold memorial services, the family name on the memorial tablet must be her husband’s. Even if she doesn’t like her husband at heart, you have to do this as long as you have children, because there is a deep karma beyond your imagination. But remember. When there are some problems and friction with those around you about smoke of incense sticks, you don’t have to hold memorial services, for this is also karma.

  • memorial tablet 霊位
  • even if S+V たとえSがVするとしても
  • at heart 心では
  • those around you 周りの人々
  • don’t have to~ 〜する必要はない

If you have gratitude to your ancestors, it is also good to just think about them in your heart. But good points of using incense sticks are its smoke and scent, which I really feel reach spirits. In this sense, you can also make use of hot tea instead of incense sticks. You boil water wholeheartedly, make tea, put it on a shelf with nothing on, and say grateful words in your heart, which is also a good practice. In any case, if you start to pay attention to your ancestors everyday in some way, you definitely feel some change compared with the time you were not conscious about them at all.

  • in this sense この意味では

  • instead of A Aの代わりに

  • pay attention to A Aに注意を払う
  • in some way 何らかの形で
  • compared with A Aと比較して

memorial service is not only for your ancestors but for yourself

Even if a woman has got divorced, as long as she uses her ex-husband’s family name, her spiritual register belongs to that of her ex-husband. It is the family name now you’re using that matters. Therefore, if this divorced woman hold a memorial service for her ancestors, the name on the memorial tablet must be the present family name, or ex-husband’s family name.

  • even if S+V たとえSがVするとしても
  • as long as S+V SがVする限り
  • ex-husband 前の夫
  • register 籍
  • belong to A Aに属する

Name is also a kind of Kotodama(言霊), a spirit of language. When your name is called by others, you receive the vibration of Kotodama. What is important in people’s name is not the number of strokes in the Chinese characters but its sound.

  • a kind of A 一種のA
  • number of strokes 画数
  • Chinese character 漢字

In Onomancy, only the number of strokes in a Chinese character of the name is focused. But this is meaningless. I wish there were Onomancy based on the pronunciation of names. If the sound of the name is focused, the new Onomancy applies to the name of foreigners.

  • Onomancy
  • be based on A Aに基づいている
  • pronunciation 発音
  • apply to A Aに当てはまる
  • foreigner 外国人

When I hear a name, I can feel the vibration of Kotodama and read the course of his/her ancestors and their Karma. That is, there is a spiritual connection in people’s name. That’s why your present family name is important.

  • course 流れ
  • connection 繋がり
  • That’s why S+V

If you change your family name, you feel something is wrong at first. This is because your spiritual line is changed, not just because of the problem of habituation. When you get divorced and change your name to the original one, your spiritual register is also changed back. But,  after you die, apart from a spiritual problem, your children, who are expected to hold a memorial services for you,  are apt to forget you unless their family names are the same as yours.

  • feel something is wrong
  • at first 最初は
  • habituation 慣れ
  • original 元々の
  • apart from A Aは別として
  • be apt to~ 〜しがちである
  • the same as A Aと同じ

Here is an important thing to remember. If you have no children or are single all your life, I strongly recommend that you practice the memorial services under your present name. A person who have made Karma of giving comfort to  his/her ancestors as long as he/she lives is sure to led by them and rest in peace after death. What you did returns to you by a law of action and reaction. As to spiritual matters, it is much better to practice the services than just talk and imagine.

  • all one’s life 生涯にわたって
  • be sure to~ 必ず〜する
  • as to A Aに関しては
