Humans Never Evolve Without Death

The other day, I met a doctor I knew, and had dinner with him. He used to be a hospital doctor working for two large hospitals. He’s now a medical practitioner. According to him, he worked for the hospitals more than ten hours a day for more than 300 days a year. At the hospitals, he faced a lot of patients’ deaths. For example, he had to inform his patients of their life expectancies, be on his patients’ deathbeds, have families see their parents’ dead bodies who were killed in car accidents, see unidentified dead bodies without relatives passing away and so on.

What he realized after facing these deaths was that people never evolve without death. If humans were immortal, their spirituality, intelligence or cultures wouldn’t reach the present level. It is because they are mortal that they make efforts and suffer, trying to demonstrate their own personalities, which may be due to an instinct of a living thing, he said.

Well, do creatures exist that never die? Yes, there is – myxomycetes, which have been on this planet since long before the emergence of humans. Myxomycetes are both animals and plants and turn themselves into either of them depending on the environment. Scientists cannot trace their evolution, which means that they don’t evolve. They have just existed as they are from time immemorial. Kumagusu Minakata(南方熊楠), a Japanese great scholar and an incarnation of a spirit of woods, saw God in the world of myxomycetes.

As long as you live, you cannot avoid unpleasant things and are troubled by many things. But these things are limited and come to an end. They will become good memories once you’ve got over them. Everything that happens to you in this world is a rare and precious chance to develop your mind. This World of Reality is where great gifts for you are all around. Yes, human minds are like myxomycetes. They never die.

  • unpleasant 不快な
  • trouble 悩ます
  • get over A Aを乗り越える
  • develop 育てる
  • gift 贈り物

Your mind never dies like a myxomycete however much your body changes. That minds never die means that the deep part of your mind never develop nor change. It doesn’t need to from the beginning. Spiritual awakening doesn’t mean changing yourself drastically to something other than you. It means that you realize that your mind has already been perfect.

Be grateful for your present situations and enjoy them, and you will come to realize the meanings of everything. You will be quick of apprehension and a person to make peace with everything. After this, all you have to do is protect or cultivate your mind. There is nothing to be scared of in this world. You just enjoy both good times and bad times.

Being Positive Heals Sick Families and Friends

There seem a lot of people who have depressed and anguished feelings, caring about sick families. They have to know that they can’t cure others’ diseases however hard they worry. Worrying too much would damage their own health, which makes the situation much worse.

Diseases are a consequence of your state of mind. Modern medicine can deal with the consequence as a supportive measure. Techniques of modern medicine have developed largely to be sure, but the fundamental cause of diseases is still unknown and often not paid attention to. It’s been regarded as outside of medical science and in the field of psychology or religion somehow.

This is because human beings don’t know why life arises, after all. If invisible human mind is unraveled by science, the universe, seemingly unrelated to human mind, will be unraveled, too.

The universe has the only one mind, which is the same as yours. People can understand each other’s emotional pain. This is not so much because they have the ability to imagine as because they share the same mind. Imagine you have a family or friend suffering from a disease. At this very moment, your mind is near the person. So, if you lift up your heart and send your gratitude to the person, you can heal him/her without saying anything. This is what true spiritual healers do.

Or, what if your child is mentally ill? Then you must not be pessimistic about your child’s future, spending your time in a blue mood. Enjoy your life and live positively, which will do much good to your child. Your child may make sarcastic remarks like “You look happy don’t you, huh?” But, at the bottom of his/her heart, your child is feeling relieved.

Most traditional religions or spiritual methods are apt to make people feel gloomy. They oppress people and make them depressed, for if the believers or clients should awaken and become light of heart, such religious groups or healers can’t make money or maintain their organizations by threatening or instilling a feeling of fear into them. Also, nonsensical incantations are no better than a placebo. It can only give you a false, temporary feeling of relief.

You are like an end of a rope extending from the one and only mind, namely the Primordial Being. The part between you and the mind is like your ancestors. If the rope had been broken, you wouldn’t be here. Even if it’s not broken, the loosen fibers of the rope make the end loose.  Holding grateful memorial services for your ancestral spirits and reminding yourself of gratitude toward the one and only mind bunches the loosen fibers together and braces up the whole rope.

The occupation rate of the world of mind will increase in the days ahead.

People’s lives are different from each other, and none of them are the same. There are six billion ways of life for 6 millions of people. Do not lose your way comparing with those of others.

  • each other お互い

Brothers and sisters, raised in the same family, have different lives. Even identical twins, living in the same family, going to the same school, and getting the same kind of job, will come to lead different lives from each other in different surroundings. But these are all materialistic things. Though they have similar appearances or live in similar environments, they have had different feelings and ways of thinking since they were born.

Lives are occupied by the world of reality and that of mind. I feel that from now on the rate of the world of mind will increase compared with the former. That is, even if a man becomes successful in the world of reality, they cannot be said to be successful in life as long as they are the poor in spirituality. Such people are going to die alone with nothing, unsatisfied and clinging to or afraid of something.

  • occupy 占める
  • that is つまり
  • as long as S+V SがVする限り
  • spirituality 霊性
  • unsatisfied 不満な
  • cling to A Aに固執する

If you’re unemployed now, do not distress yourself. Your family or you may be worried about it so much, but all you have to do is make the greatest possible efforts steadily. People now unemployed also have a chance to become rich in the future. Whether you become successful materialistically or not is just a matter in this world, though.

  • all you have to do is ~ あなたは〜しさえすえばよい

It matters whether you can have gratitude for being kept alive. When you realise it, you’ll see what to do in the face of various problems in life in the world of reality, and come to be in the state of  “automatic driving”, or Kannagara(カンナガラ), being always with God.

  • what to do 何をしたらよいのか
  • in the face of A Aに直面しながら

Human beings, however, are stupid in a way. It’s not enough for them just to think about hundreds of theories of ideals. They’re apt to forget them soon and the reality will never be changed. So it is important that you engrave and leave the energy of gratitude into space steadily without any expectations holding memorial services for your ancestors and reminding yourself of gratitude.

  • remind A of B AにBを思い出させる

What you did in this world never fades away. What you did  is sure to return to you sooner or later. It never fails to return even over dimensions. It is important, and enough, that you have gratitude for just being kept alive as children put their hands together and pray imitating their parents.

  • never fail to~ 必ず〜する
  • dimension 次元
