Beautiful Flowers Need Healthy Roots

Human beings like to avoid looking at reality and try to escape from it, thinking ” What I am now is not what I should be,” ” There must be my true mission somewhere else,” or “My life is miserable because of something other than me.” There are some young people who ascribe their dissatisfaction of life to their parents and ancestors and search the invisible, spiritual world for their escapes.

  • avoid 避ける
  • mission 使命
  • miserable 惨めな
  • ascribe A to B AをBのせいにする

You have to realize the very miracle that you exist now. You can’t put up any building without its foundation. If you want to put up a great building on the ground, you have to construct a foundation corresponding the structure under the ground. The taller a building is, the longer its underground support poles are. The same thing can be said about appeasing ancestral spirits, too.

If you want to flourish physically and mentally in this world, you need to sink deep roots into the other world by appeasing your ancestral spirits and these roots, so to speak a spiritual line of your family line and through which you were born into this world, need to be healthy. Flowers don’t come out with their roots rotten. As long as you keep your roots healthy, you can flourish over and over again if you fail once. You don’t need any expensive chemical fertilizer or strange artificial beam to keep them healthy. It’s no use sticking to your flowers (=result) without taking care of the roots (=cause).

  • flourish 栄える
  • sink 沈める
  • so to speak 言わば

Everything happens between the parental gods called the sun and the ground. God is all around. Those are strong who deeply realize how lucky they are in their present situations. They can achieve any success free from care between heaven and earth. Everything changes in this World of Reality. Just as good things never last, bad things never last long. Some people may say that they’ve been unlucky all the time. But, in fact, they just don’t know how lucky they are in their present situations. They cannot enjoy the happiness they’ve already have.

Ramakrishna, a holy man in India, would often go out, saying to his family “I’ll come back soon,” and not come back home for half a day. It often happened that his family, searching for him, caught watching in fascination flowers blooming along a road, sometimes a chained cow and at other times a rooster in a cage. Asked by a member of his family, he said “I’ve been fascinated by the beauty of God.”

Finding out the divinity in everything you see enables you to become the happiest person on this planet. Look at the angry person in front of you. Can you God inside of him? Inside a naughty, disobedient child is a joyful God. How can you need to hurt your heart?

ways to the original god

After all, all religions and sects lead to the same Original God which produces the universe. For example, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa in India(1836-1886) practiced trying to know the truth.

  • religion 宗教
  • sect 宗派
  • lead to A Aに通じる
  • the same 同じ

He practiced the ascetic training in each sects of Hinduism and Islam, following each way from scratch. As he ascended in the ranks of each sects, he encountered sacred spirits from low to high level in order , and then he sympathized with the highest god of each sect.

  • in order 順番に

The Deity varied and had different features in each sect. What is surprising about him is that he tried to go beyond the encounter with the Deity. After he became unified with the Deity, what he felt was the same regardless of the sects. “Only the sea of love prevailed silently,” he expressed. This sea of love, which any religions lead to, is the Original God. It has no name.

  • the Deity 神
  • go beyond A Aの先に行く
  • regardless of A Aに関係なく

There are a lot routes reaching the top of the mountain where the Original God exists. The sceneries you see in the middle of your climbing are different according to the route you take. You must not blame one another just because the scenery is different, nor must you be caught up in the scenery. The top of the mountain is the same. But there are a shortcut and a longcut.

  • according to A Aに依って
  • be caught up in A Aに囚われる
  • shortcut 近道
  • longcut 遠回り

I think that the best shortcut is to have gratitude for the present situations you are put in with all troubles. If you remind yourself of gratitude for your life you are apt to take for granted, you will realize some important things and start climbing the mountain. We are left in trust with part of Original God in our hearts. Life can be said to be a journey for realizing this truth.

  • with all A Aがあるにも関わらず
  • trouble 問題
  • remind A of B AにBを思い出させる
  • be apt to~ 〜しがちである
  • take A for granted Aを当たり前に思う
  • leave A in trust with B AにBを任せる
  • part 一部
