Just Studying What Sages Said Takes You Nowhere

It’s about 100 days since I touched the energy body of the third holy pillar on New Year’s Day. With my birthday coming near, I anticipate the advent of a leap year. I have an image in my head that Amatsu-kami(天津神) and Kunitsu-kami (国津神)are to integrate this week here in Japan.

What’s important in developing your spirituality is that you shouldn’t be a mere critic. Even if you’ve been studying sages of the past for fifty years, you will end up having unnecessary magnetism accumulated in your spiritual body, which is far from spiritual progress and nothing but regression in spirituality.

On the other hand,  just practicing devoting gratitude and three incense sticks to your spiritual line of your family line causes you a spiritual renovation in a short period of time. This is beyond description and it’s a kind of sense of security you experience. Unless you practice it yourself and experience the sense of security, you don’t understand what I’m saying. You’d be wrapped up in suspicion.

How do you know whether the sense of security you experience is the right sense or not? It’s safe and the right thing to do not to turn to others for the sense of security. As long as you practice it on your own, it doesn’t mean that you are deceived by someone.

  • turn to A for B Bを求めてAに頼る
  • deceive 騙す

It’s an undeniable, absolute truth that you were born of your parents. Therefore it’s the safest way for you to devote gratitude to the spiritual line of your family line, and as you practice it, you will come to feel the Holy Spirit at the origin of your ancestral spirits.

Even if you just study what spiritual gurus said who, allegedly, are said to have performed miracles, your poor living conditions don’t improve. Hints you receive from their sayings are nothing but those for them only, not for you just as you can’t insert D batteries into a case for AA batteries. It will take you many years for you to understand what I’m saying. It’s up to you and your karma whether or not you take my advice with an open mind.

  • with an open mind 素直に

Each of you is like a holy star. There is nothing you have to get from another star. A star called you is on a journey and on the move. Only gravitational pull of stars moving near you, such as your family, colleagues, friends and so on, can affect you. Attracting force of sages of the past is only illusion. Cherish the star named you with confidence.

There are many spiritual training methods in this world that are said to improve your spirituality. What kind of method is the best one everyone can use that does everyone good? It matters for your life what method you choose because your choice of it can affect your destination after you die and the whole journey of you soul.

Observe someone’s life for ten or twenty years, and you’ll know whether his/her choice was right or wrong. Most spiritual training methods don’t last even ten years and almost all are fakes. Since it takes as many as ten years for you to know the consequences, the spiritual training method you adopt can ruin your life.

Shakuson, the founder of the Buddhism, abstained from food and meditated thoroughly to the point of death. But still he failed to become one with the universe in his mind. Even Shakuson couldn’t reach spiritual enlightenment through meditation.

  • abstain from A Aを断つ

Shakuson gave up his ascetic trainings and couldn’t move emaciated. One day, he was waiting for death in a hazy state lying in the shade of a tree, when a working woman of the lowest social group in the Hindu caste system passed by. At the sight of Shakuson unusually thin and scrawny, she felt very sorry for him. Her job was carrying milk. So if she had spilt milk at all, she could’ve been hit with a whip or the amount of money worthy of the spilt milk would’ve been deducted from her wages. But she couldn’t abandon Shakuson, so she dared to have him drink a cup of milk and left him.

No sooner had he felt her mercy than he merged into his inner universe. Later, leading her ordinary, poor life as a worker, she reached an absolute, peaceful state of mind naturally. Her soul came from the same one as Avalokitesvara, or bodhisattva of mercy and salvation.

  • mercy 慈悲
  • merge into A Aと一体になる

This is a story of Sujata that I feel to be true, a little bit different from the traditional one. Though most people pay attention to Shakuson, I feel that a hint on spiritual enlightenment lies in this woman. To describe in an extreme manner, receiving mercy from working people enables you to reach spiritual enlightenment easily.

George Ivanovich Gurdjieff, a Russian mystic, also associated labor with spiritual enlightenment. Self-claimed psychics or spiritual gurus who make easy gains would laugh at Gurdjieff’s thought. But the strong association between them is true in light of the intention of God appearing in the World of Reality, for human society is supported by an innumerable number of workers working hard honestly, in fact.

  • mystic 神秘家

There are many kinds of labor. Domestic chores are hard work if housewives have desire for self-improvement. Apartment owners who obtain a secured rental income also go through the efforts in management of real estate. People unable to get jobs also work by doing what they can do for those around them.

  • domestic chores 家事

Fee-charging psychics who make their livings by using the name of God or their spiritual power can never console the souls of the deceased. On the contrary, they bind up the souls and seal them up. They are inferior to normal people in spirituality, ignorant of this spiritual truth. That’s why they can do such business.

  • fee-charging 有料の

Descendants who offer gratitude to their ancestral spirits out of mercy does console them and other related spirits. And such descendants will come to realize the spiritual truth in return just as Sujata led Shakuson to spiritual awakening. Even Shakuson couldn’t reach spiritual enlightenment alone. He managed to do it in the relationship with other people. Remember that Sujata was an ordinary person who was not interested in seeking for truth and that it’s her merciful heart that brought about his spiritual enlightenment.

Treasure every moment, for it will never recur.

A chair or table in front of you will turn into dust in tens of thousands of years. The chair equals dust. If you look at these at the same time, you can’t identify one with the other. In short, things turn into something else in the course of time.

As you remind yourself of gratitude for being kept alive in everyday life, the frequency of vibration of your spiritual body gets higher and higher and as the result your consciousness finer and finer. You could see everything is shining bright.

  • frequency of vibration 振動数
  • consciousness 意識

Views you see are only aggregates of molecules joining or vibrating together. They are always changing. Treasure every moment, for it will never recur. The whole amount of molecules making up the universe is fixed and unchangeable. Joining and separating repeatedly, molecules produce changes.

  • aggregate 集合体
  • molecure 分子

What do I want to say? I want you to know that the spiritual waves of your thought and the words you utter make up your future more than you imagine. Have you ever thought in a difficult situation like “I’ll be as miserable as ever. Nothing will be changed until I die”? But adversity can turn into opportunity. Everything never fails to change.

  • utter 発する
  • miserable 惨めな

It is said that people can derive great power from within when they’re in trouble. When you’re serious, you can be powerful unexpectedly. When you’re in a difficult situation, remind yourself of gratitude of being kept alive and hold memorial services for your ancestral spirits, thanks to whom you exist now, and your consciousness will be enhanced dramatically, which never happens when you’re in comfort.

  • thanks to A Aのお陰で
  • enhance 高める
  • comfort 快適

People living in comfort are apt to forget about their ancestors nor try to improve their spirituality. Such people can be said to be unlucky in a way, for all human beings have to leave this world for another, leaving everything behind. If you’re not conscious of death trying not to think about it, you’ll be panicked in the face of death.

  • be apt to~ 〜しがちである
  • leave A behind Aを置いていく

Reminding yourself of gratitude for being kept alive in everyday life enhances your consciousness greatly, which is impossible by meditation or religious rituals. Also, holding memorial services for your ancestral spirits helps your consciousness to be enhanced too because the conduct cleanses your negative spiritual magnetism well in this World of Reality. Doing meditation with unnecessary spiritual magnetism would just make spirits possessing you come up to the surface. Even if you do meditation for a hundred years, you won’t be changed at all.

The intention to try to prevent human beings from awaking underlies traditional religious rituals or incantations. This is because religious groups or profit organizations holding spiritual workshops want to detain their members. People ignorant of this secret will join them just because many people have. Once they know the secret, they’ll leave such groups.

As long as you’re dependent on new religions, healers or psychics that charge money, you’ll have one problem after another over, so that you won’t be able to leave them. Under such a situation, you can never attain the peaceful state of mind.

  • as long as S+V SがVする限り

Don’t forget the truth that all human beings have to die alone. Everyday life is the best place that  you can achieve spiritual enlightenment. Let’s go for it.

Question 12:

I wanna ask you about Hannya Shingyo,Heart Sutra. One of my friends, told by someone that it is good to chant the Heart Sutra for his ancestors, chants it about 200 times a day, day and night, before his family Buddhist altar. What do you think of this? I am recommending to him that he offer words of gratitude like you said.

  • Heart Sutra
  • day and night 朝に晩に

Answer:

It is no good to chant Heart Sutra for ancestors. On the contrary, I feel Heart Sutra bind up and torture them. Many people who keep on chanting a sutra get unstable mentally. The Heart Sutra was made up a couple of hundred years after Buddha died. It is nothing more than a miscellany of parts. I feel Heart Sutra contain some trap by the writer.

Question 13:

If a baby’s spirituality level is not close to that of his mother, is there something wrong? I had bad morning sickness, so I think my son and I have different level of spirituality.

  • spirituality 霊性
  • be close to A Aに近い
  • morning sichness 悪阻
  • son 息子

Answer:

It is true that when a baby’s spirituality level and mother’s are different, his/her mother tends to have bad morning sickness. When the frequency of vibration of the baby’s spiritual body doesn’t correspond with that of his/her mother, the phenomenon arises. To put it better, it is possible that the baby has much higher spirituality than that of his/her mother. There is no problem if there is a difference in spirituality between a parent and a child. It’s just like they have different personalities.
